In the wake of yesterday's post about slipping LCPS teacher salaries, one neighbor asked me if local businesses could offer discounts to LCPS employees as a benefit that wouldn't cost the taxpayers anything.
As it turns out, many local businesses already do!
Current LCPS Employee Discounts
All you need is your employee badge to take advantage of these.
Hey, Chamber of Commerce (email link), how about encouraging more local businesses to join this list?

The local county discounts are nice, however most LCPS teachers are not local county residents. Most of their recreation/spending takes place out of the county. So local discounts are really not that enticing or realistic.
Someone posted a comment earlier stating that the highly trained, motivated teachers will leave the county for better paying jobs. This is TRUE. This is the reason I came to LCPS to begin with over 10 years ago. As of now, I am willing to drive 70+ miles to work every morning because I think LCPS is a district that supports learning. But, I am just as quick to move to another school district that is more willing to support education...and is closer to my home in West Virginia.
Yeeeeehhhhaaa! I don't blame you a bit. Why shouldn't you do what's best for your family?
If good talent leaves Loudoun, this would be an indication that the total compensation package for Loudoun needs to be adjusted. If that isn't happening or doesn't happen then the entire package (pay and all benefits) is probably adequate.
@Anonymous 9:28 a.m. --- According to Dr. Hatrick, 71% of LCPS teachers are residents of Loudoun County.
See you later, anon. Don't let the proverbial door smack you in the rear end. Good luck in your job search, I'm sure those WVA salaries and benefits are real comparable. Any school district supports learning. Stop buying into admin's budget games and get fired up about the real problems in Loudoun County. It certainly isn't that this county isn't spending enough money on education. It spends plenty, it's where that money is going that needs to be re-evaluated.
