"Everybody's lost but me"

The conduct of the Richmond School Board has been analyzed in a study funded by Altria and conducted by UVA.
To be effective, the board "must find a common ground that will allow them to operate and behave in ways that allow for personal differences and beliefs, yet puts aside the personal anger, petty politics and other behaviors displayed by individual board members that interfere with the board's ability to do its job," longtime educator Ron Broadbent said in a report after observing the School Board since 2005.
As has been my experience on many Boards, one person can make life difficult for everyone:
After two meetings in August, Broadbent wrote that "Ms. Gray continues to ignore proper protocol and procedures" and that she "continues to attempt to dominate with her numerous comments and personal opinions on practically every agenda item."
And as has also been my experience, that one person thinks it's actually everybody else who is crazy:
"I think the underlying message is dissent is not acceptable in public education," Gray said. "We must keep perceptions positive and must never question."

  1. I suppose this is Mr. Steven's effort to apologize to Mr. Ohneiser for trying to censor BobO on Nov 9. I guess the apology will be met with the sincerity sent. Yes Nov 9 that painful night watching the Chairman fumbling (several minutes) for protocol intended to restrict open discussion of agenda items. Very disrespectful. Disrespectful to his collegue and to all the citizens standing in front of him too. Agree with Mr. Stevens message: Board members must be more respectful of one another and while you are at it, more courteous to the public who come to the Board to have their concerns heard.

  2. God Bless the Man who resists all temptations/pressure to drink the King's Kool-aid because apparently it seriously destroys brain cells.

  3. Sounds like several Loudoun school board members. Their egos get in the way or they're quick to blame the Loudoun Taxpayer if a boundary issue doesn't go their way. For once, I'd like to some common sense, logical and analytical thinking and not this rubber stamping of everything Dr Hatrick wants. And good job To Bob O for asking good questions.
