I was surprised to hear everyone talking about how they volunteer and if they get moved 2 miles away they might not be able to. No one was talking about quality of education. Some parents drive or bus their kids to private or gifted schools (like Jefferson) from Loudoun county because they are worried about the education. From what I understand Little River is going down hill and the teachers have been leaving going to new schools that are opening. When teachers are leaving due to over crowding there is not onntinuity with the students

@Anonymous 8:46 a.m.--It sounds fine to say that LCPS should "use the money to build a school in a community that wants a new school," but there's the minor detail of no available land. You find a place within walking distance of Little River students! You know what? There aren't ANY open parcels of land in this area of South Riding. Little River is horrendously overcrowded with several specials classrooms in the hall, with offices in the hall. In a school with a capacity of 817, there are 953 students (as of 9/30/09). Why would parents WANT their child to go to an overcrowded school? What's so horrible about a 5-minute bus ride?

Maybe before the county builds a new school, it should poll the community and see whether anyone in that community is willing to send their kids to the new school. If not, then use the money to build a school in a community that wants a new school.
